An end-to-end analytics build that turns raw subscription data into a living retention cockpit, designed so product, growth, and pricing teams can answer their own questions without pinging the analyst.

§01 / CONTEXT

The brief.

OTT operators lose value silently. A single percentage point of monthly churn cascades into millions of lost ARR over a year, and most teams discover the leak only when the quarter closes. The brief was to give Netflix-style stakeholders a continuously updated view of who is leaving, why, and what it costs.

§02 / APPROACH

How it was built.

  1. STEP 01Modelled 10,000+ customer records in SQL, normalising plans, payment methods, and tenure cohorts.
  2. STEP 02Engineered DAX measures for rolling churn, cohort retention, and revenue at risk by segment.
  3. STEP 03Designed seven interactive Power BI visuals: cohort heatmap, plan-level churn, gender split, payment-method breakdown, revenue waterfall, tenure distribution, and a KPI strip.
  4. STEP 04Layered tooltips and drill-throughs so any chart click pivots into the underlying customer slice.
§03 / OUTCOMES

What it moved.

  • Surfaced 3× higher churn among male subscribers and a 42% dropout spike on Basic plans.
  • Identified gift-card cohorts churning 35% above baseline, a previously invisible segment.
  • Recommended pricing and onboarding changes projected to reduce churn by 12, 15%.
  • Cut weekly retention reporting from a four-hour manual export to a one-click refresh.
